The Muses, by Evelyn Hopfner for July 13th, 2022
In celebration of ‘Calling In The Muse’

Do you know what the muses do
When they’re not inspiring you?
They are meeting in the night,
When the moon is shining bright.
They sing and they dance
And they wait for their chance
To find the one they’ll inspire
By lighting their creative fire.

I heard from Mathilda my muse,
They all have freedom to choose.
They’ll listen for calls, they might hear;
And when they decide to appear
They may come in disguise
Not to spoil the surprise.
All muses love to play games
And they take on different names.

They come out of mythology
One calls herself Fantasy,
Another muse is Mother Earth,
One may come at your baby’s birth.
Some come to be your new friend,
Another may want to pretend
To be your teacher of old
Reminding you to be bold.

They’re the Dance and the Music,
The Magnificent Sky.
They’re a Tree so majestic
Or a Bird that flies by.
They’re the Beauty in nature
Or a Whispering Breeze,
They’re quick Improvisation
Or the Air that you breathe.

They come from ethereal realms
To open a door to your heart,
And they will flow to the rhythm
Of your particular art.
Some muse may take you deeper still
Into the process of healing.
One may guide you through the thrill
Of your parental feeling.

Some muse may come to remind you
Of a book you long ago read;
And another one may find you
Wide awake at night in your bed.
They may open the door to your psyche
And call themself Reflection;
They may point you to the Almighty
For healing through Introspection.

One may fly with expansive wings
And a belly filled with choices
On the shape shifting clouds and winds
Singing with heavenly voices.
Another may call themself Laughter
For the humorous side of life,
Appear as a playful jester
Or a clown to ease all your strive.

One muse who calls herself Colour
May inspire you to no end
As they hand you red and yellow
And blue, ..... and then lead you to blend.
And then there is Curiosity
Who may lead you to explore
The beauty and grandiosity
That lie beyond the shore.

One muse may bring you words that rhyme
And release the demons of doubt.
One may teach you Rituals divine
To rethink what friendship’s about.
So, always embrace your own muse,
May you never be too tired,
To chase away all your blues ....
...... And always feel Inspired!
