Resistance Overcome
In this empty space
I see possibility on the blank canvas
and all the creations to come.
Up in my head there is only chaos and chatter,
transformation is my art.
Recreating from the debris,
and resurrecting the dust to Life.
The noise in my head quiets down.
The steady flow of my Love,
shakes the earth beneath my feet.
I am once again authentic to this moment within.
Whirlwinds of thoughts dissipate,
the criticism of mother no longer audible
in my mind.
Stillness the eternal companion.
See Presence in the Masterpiece.
Feel the victory in the bones.
My Muse always moves me.
Resistance overcome,
and the battle is won.

Artist Statement:
I have always been fascinated by the Flow State and the Ethereal Realms. Two sides of the same coin perhaps? When I am in flow I feel alive, tuned in and connected to my Muse, and often that means playing in the ethereal planes and with the goddesses and gods who reside there. So when I discovered I could play with less dense paints and make them more fluid in consistency, I really found my new art heaven! Fluid acrylics became the other worldly dimension I had been so longing to experience in my art work.
On the earth plane, brushes and easels are required. In the ethereal fluid acrylic realm, it's a whole other playground. I use cups, colanders, empty recyclables and all kinds of reusable vessels as my brushes, sturdy and aligned tables as my easel and different combined acrylic mediums to thin and create flowy fluid phenomena.
But, there is a science to this art form as well. Too much of one medium or substance or too little can turn the fluids to flops. Too fast with my hands, or too snail like slow, changes the whole result. I use certain brands of paint for certain effects. Metallics can truly become a wild ride when combined with mattes. I've learned and studied the densities of paint and what different and varied effects they produce. Certain mediums are used for certain effects. No one painting can ever be similarly replicated. These are truly one of a kind fluid flow pieces.
And there is a lot of trial and error. Many days and nights pouring off all the paint, abandoning the canvas and feeling defeated by the demons of inner criticism. It all seems so futile. The paints resisting to flow in the way I am asking. Or the temperature in the studio just not right. Or the hues not melding and playing right. Elation lost to the sobs of feeling I have been defeated...
That is when I call upon my MUSE! She resides in the ethereal realms, and she releases me from the grips of the lowly demons of Resistance. She flows right into my studio, helps me to light a candle, burn some incense and flow to the rhythm of her heart. She often brings in drum beats and shamanic soundscapes that stir up my studio space, and then I begin to play in the ethers with my Muse. Just like magic, I'm ignited to create and recreate myself once again. We dance, we sing, and we flow again and again on the canvas once more. Satisfaction achieved. My Muse has helped me conquer Resistance numerous times. Without her I don't know how I would flow!
Calling in the Muse has been even more powerful in creative community. Since attending “Open Studio”, a creative online time to explore creativity in a supportive and safe space with many amazing fellow Creatives and Artists, I've improved my chances of dancing with my Muse instead of battling my demons. Erica Ross has given me the opportunity to explore and play without making the outcome the goal. The journey of dancing with my Muse is the masterpiece. Regardless if the paint stays on or is flowed off. The Creativity Goddesses and Gods always show up when I do. May the Flow be with every Artist and Creative around.
Bio:
Piera Marie, a.k.a Piera “Artistica”, first played with paints using her fingers instead of paintbrushes to explore her world. Then she grew up and left the paints aside, and embarked on a journey that lead her to study, learn and practice the holistic healing arts. She graduated from the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine in 2007, received her certifications in E.F.T (Emotional Freedom Technique), Holistic Nutrition, Yoga and Meditation instruction. She worked in the HIV community, bringing awareness of holistic modalities and their deeply healing affects to those struggling with pain, substance addictions, mental health challenges, and chronic illness. She spent time as a holistic practitioner helping cancer patients incorporate holistic therapies for healing and prevention. She has also written a book called “Eat Fat, Get Thin”, published and sold on Amazon.
Her inner painter never died. After decades of disowning her inner Creative, and as part of her own healing journey, she reunited with her Muse and began playing with acrylics, inks, oil pastels and chalks, gesso, and all kinds of mediums. She reclaimed her inner Creative! She connected with other recovering Creatives, and found the courage to explore paint and art in new and different ways. The inner painter joined her outer muses and all was creatively alive and well again. She then claimed the name “Artistica”, which is Italian for artistic or artistically inclined.
Her love of colour, and bright bold hues is seen throughout her work. She also loves ethereal expressions and spiritual symbolism, and finds the spontaneity of fluid paints enlivening and infinitely enriching. Fluid outcomes are her primary love, and she also dabbles in mixed media, collage, abstract expressions and layers and layers of acrylic applications. Currently she is working with mixed media on larger canvases and also creating a unique Tarot card deck based on the modality called “Reality Transurfing”. A body of work written and created by Vadim Zeland.
When she isn't playing with herbs or paints, she can be found cuddling her two super cute Chihuahuas Muffin and Luna. Piera resides in Vaughan, Ontario Canada and works and plays in her home art studio.
